Let’s face it, RC racing takes a lot of gear. However, if you’re just starting out, don’t feel that you need to pack the caravan and load up the roof rack just to go racing. While some people do bring all the creature comforts, here’s a list of what you’ll need – some of which you can get from the club if you’re just starting out.
What you should bring
- RC car (or two or three)
- If you’re just wanting to give it a try, and don’t have a car yet, the club has a loaner buggy as well! Enquire with the club on our Contact page
- Radio (Transmitter)
- Car battery
- Battery charger
- Lipo charging sack
- Pinion gears
- Tires
- Folding table
- Electrical extension lead (suitable for outdoors)
- Chair
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Tools for working on your car with – the basics:
- Hex drivers suitable for the bolts on your car (usually metric hex drivers)
- Nut driver for removing/fastening wheel nuts
- Needle nose pliers
- Brushes and/or rags to help clean your cars with (they will get dirty out there – especially if it’s damp)
That’s all for just the basics. No need to bring your own shade as there is a covered pit area. Also, if you’re travelling from far away, there are tables for use that can be arranged with the club prior to arriving.
However, if you really want to make the day a bit more enjoyable, here are some additional items that some racers utilise that may help out your day:
Nice to haves
- Spare parts
- Suspension arms
- Wings
- Spare wheel nuts
- Pit mat
- Setup tools
- Ride height gauge
- Camber gauge
- Turnbuckle wrench
- Wash basin
- Tire brush
- Simple Green
- Extra/spare tires
- Portable gazebo – if you want shade separate from the permanent covered pit area
Over time, you’ll learn what bits and pieces of equipment work for you, but this should be enough to get you started. Also, members are glad to help out and lend equipment where possible. The main thing is to come out and join in on the fun!
